Arikoto is my ideal man now. The baby is a girl and Kasuga insisted that she gives birth to a boy so just when good old Sutezo was getting more sure of himself he fell and became paralised poor thing. Arikoto visited him in his sick bed and tried to ease his suffering by assigning more men for his care.
Just when Arikoto and Chie are back together and loving each other more than ever, Kasuga finds another stud for Chie. This time he is the son of a highly respected warior clan and he has excellent decorum. So Arikoto's counter move is putting Gyokei to service as another stud for Chie. His rationale is that if warrior fathers a child than his chances of seeing Chie would be even less. But with Gyokei already like a brother to him, he will have access to Chie (actually this one is not explained clearly but is only my rationale).
Meanwhile men keep dying and women are slowly getting to do all the work and keeping the remaing few young men protected. Many samurai daimyos disguise their daughters as boys as to have heirs.
Tokugawa council proposes that female heirs are allowed, at least for now since the number of male heirs are not sufficient. Surprisingly the one who opposes this idea most is Kasuga, who is very old by now and does not have the same amount of power over everyone. Actually after an outburst opposing the decision and then later getting the worse end of an argument with Arikoto she collapsed. And it is not surprise that Arikoto is the one who takes care of her at her sick bed. Fake Shogun's son is also infected with the disease and likely to die. And now the disease has even reached Ooku and I left the show where Arikoto was making arrangement for the two active concubines to move in with Kasuga and not to come in contact with anyone but the wet nurse of Chie's daughter.
