The Whisper Man

The Whisper Man did not work for me sadly. The whole thing felt a bit pat. It is not bad but not as good as I was led to believe.

Ajji

Ajji is a tough film to watch but it is a good film with excellent acting and a good ending.

When The Camellia Blooms

When The Camellia Blooms completely got me unprepared. Gong Hyo Jin is not an actress I especially care for but I now realise that I like all her projects. Kang Ha Neul never interested me and he is fantastic in this (come to think of it, Gong Hyo Jin has great chemistry with all her co stars). I loved this drama to bits and enjoyed all 20 episodes. Also I must have cried a bucketful of tears but in a good way.

My Country

My Country turned out to be a love story between two close childhood friends against the background of a turbulent time in Korean history, the birth of Joseon. I was already familiar with the story since Six Flying Dragons was such a riveting show but this one not to much. There were a lot of face splattered with blood shots. One of the two main lovers was bisexual since he seemed to have some feels for the female lead but the main romance was something else. These two clashed very often but also their chemistry was amazing. Despite that and the gorgeous cinematography the show was a bore. Except Jang Hyuk who shone like a jewel in the role that was also excellently played by Yoo Ah In. Bang Won starts out as a hero but turns a villain in the end. I love Jang Hyuk so I was happy with his scenes.

The Border

The Border is the final chapter of a cartel trilogy and it felt very real in some ways. It is a good ending to a very interesting story. I liked the performance too.

Tumbbad

Tumbbad is as good as they say it is. Great atmosphere, art direction and story. And acting from a well selected cast. If you like Guillermo Toro films then definitely see this one. It is similar but different in all the good ways.

6 Underground

6 Underground, oh Michael Bay, man, this could have been a good film but ended up not being one. I liked the international cast (all very good) and ..... the costumes??? At least I didn't dnfed it. That's something in its favour too no? Oh also Doron was there! When is the third season of Fauda coming?

The Amber Spyglass

The Amber Spyglass for me was the weakest in the trilogy since it suffered from "everything but the kitchen sink" syndrome I'm sort of averse to. Other than it was a fitting end to a good story and I liked many of the messages. I don't understand the need to not believe in God though. I understand the dislike of organised religion but not disbelief (well of course as a believer it is normal that I'd think so) Also believing God does not prevent you from being good, curious, cheerful and intelligent. Anyway I'm not going to get into that.

Triad Princess

Triad Princess  well there is not enough of content but the main leads and the visuals were very nice. I also liked the LBGTQ representation and easy on the eye art direction. But again there is very little content. It is like a wannabe Korean drama but without the, yep, content.

Terrace House: Opening New Doors

Terrace House: Opening New Doors made me realise that I have been watching this with short intervals since there seems to be a pattern and now I see it (I saw it too late I guess). However there was a guy who picks his nose (thank God they had not shown it) that made me turn off from picking my nose. At least there was that.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel this writer has certain kicks, a brunette lead with a motor mouth who has wealthy parents, a slightly overweight, quirky side kick and an ex lover/husband who goes between being awful and very nice. If you are into it then it is a treat but there is a chance that you may find it annoying. I like it and the 8 episodes sped by.

Marriage Story

Marriage Story turned out to be Noah Baumbach's best film (among the ones I have watched) and I love Adam Driver in anything but in this film his performance is easily the best among a perfect cast. Yep, ever since Patterson I have been crushing on him in small amounts but with this film it has turned to a full blown crush.

Section 375

Section 375 turned out to be a decent watch. I like old Akshaye Khanna.

War

War   is it a good film? No. Is it entertaining? Yes. For the wrong reasons? Yes. I had a good time with this.

Her Private Life

Her Private Life well I chose this just to try it out and ended up loving it. I would have given it a 10 out of 10 if not for the convoluted relations in the last few episodes. The weird thing is that I don't really care for either of the leads. Park Min Young is an actress I didn't like but who chooses projects that I like. Note the present tense, yep I give in. I love her. She gave me Choi Ji Woo vibes but better. I don't even remember seeing the male lead in anything else (maybe vaguely but can't name the show to save my life) and he is not my type but I love the character and he did good with it. Also insane chemistry between the leads. Not the smoldering kind but the compatible kind, they genuinely seem to enjoy themselves. I really liked this drama, an unexpected surprise.

The Accident

The Accident turned out to be entertaining fluff and I enjoyed it, although it is not a good book in my opinion.

Bunty Aur Babli

Bunty Aur Babli is still entertaining but not as much as the first time I saw it.

The Subtle Knife

The Subtle Knife -to me- is even better than The Golden Compass. I really enjoyed the whole matter of factness of the storytelling style and I like the writing too. Also as a religious person, I'm very interested in the whole 'blaming Authority for the crimes committed by other men under the mantle of religion' thing interests me a lot and I want to see how it will come to a conclusion.

The Irishman

The Irishman  here are my thoughts, first off thank God that I'm able to watch something at the same time as everyone else. It sure felt good. Secondly, I love Scorsese films. I liked this one too. There were a few problems for me as a viewer though and the main one is : De-aging of Robert De Niro. It didn't work. It worked on Al Pacino, it didn't work on De Niro. The earlier parts of this role should have been acted by a younger actor.

Pump Six And Other Stories

Pump Six And Other Stories turned out to be just another great Bacigalupi work. I loved many of the stories and I'm so glad that airline employee at San Francisco airport waived my excess baggage fees and I went and purchased The Wind-up Girl at the airport book store. That's how I met Mr. Bacigalupi's novel :)

Children of Time

Children of Time turned out to be very interesting but hard sci-fi is just not my jam.

The Earthquake Bird (film)

The Earthquake Bird turned out to be a decent adaptation. The novel is atmospheric and introspective so I did not think it was possible to adapt it nicely but they did it. I liked the cast and the omissions they made (while very important in the novel) did not affect the story line. I liked it despite the low imdb score.

The Crown Season

The Crown Season 3  is very good and I liked almost all of the episodes except Moondust.

Death Notice

Death Notice is very entertaining and I look forward to read the second novel.

Revenge

Revenge is a horror film I wanted to see for quite sometime. And it did not dissapoint. Despite being ridiculous at some places, it was so in a good way. I also liked how the LA babe did not suddenly turn into avenging angel with lots of skills. She botched a few things and that made me like her more.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again turned out to be a film to my own heart despite its failings. I liked it very much and cried a lot during. It helps that I like just about everyone in the cast and ABBA.

Frozen

Frozen well I guess I needed it. I enjoyed myself very much and felt a bit sad too since my sister and I probably will not share this kind of warmness and trust.

Rush

Rush  ok Ron Howard may not be an exceptional director but he is a good storyteller and I liked the approach to the two lead characters. I remember Niki Lauda from my childhood (and nobody near me was interested in Formula races, I was not interested either but I heard of him somehow and not of his accident - which really surprised me in the film- just because) He must have been really popular. Anyway not interested in the sport but enjoyed the film very much.

Magnolia

Magnolia did not affect me as much as it did the first time I watched it. Still, it is a very good film. Philip Seymour Hoffman, rest in peace, a great actor.

Smokey And The Bandit

Smokey And The Bandit  well I was both eager and reluctant to re watch this one. You see the first time I saw it was with family and we laughed so much during it. I wanted to keep remembering it fondly. However it may turn out just as good as the first time and I get to enjoy myself again. Thank God the latter happened. I still loved it to bits and laughed out loud during some of the parts.

BlacKkKlansman

BlackKklansman I like Spike Lee's films, and I like this one. Adam Driver, I also like.

What Men Want

What Men Want turned out to be not a really good film but I have enjoyed it.

Peppermint

Peppermint well I love a good revenge story. This was decent enough however Jennifer Garner's performance just did not work for me. The lady does everything right but somehow it is a miss.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindenwald

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindenwald turned out to be better than the first film, still not very good though.

The Guilty

The Guilty was not bad but I have seen this type of storytelling much better in Locke so despite good acting, I was not impressed.

The Good Daughter

The Good Daughter  well I love Karin Slaughter. So far I was not disappointed by anything from her and this is no exception. Great mood, great story and fantastic reading performance from Katherine Early.

The Golden Compass

The Golden Compass I was staying away from this especially after watching the film but it turned out a great read. I'm glad I purchased all three novels.

The Sisters Brothers

The Sisters Brothers is average. The acting is all good but not enough to save it.

High Life

High Life turned out to be a good viewing experience. I was pleasantly surprised.

The Bad Seed

The Bad Seed turned out to be below mediocre but not in the 'so bad it is good' category.

Loyal Man (?) (L'homme Fidéle)

Loyal Man (L'homme Fidéle) turned out to be a vanity project of sorts with the director starring as the leading man who is loved by two women played by Laetitia Casta and Lily Rose Depp.
The only thing I got back from it is a woman crush on Laetitia Casta.

Wild Things

Wild Things is as good as I remembered. It totally worked for me, even better this second time.

Sunday, November 10, 2019

Band Baaja Baaraat

Band Baaja Baaraat entertained better the second time, now that I have a new found appreciation for Ranveer Singh.

Rattlesnake

Rattlesnake it has a good idea and good actors but the execution was very dry and did not work.

Tune In For Love

Tune In For Love is not very good, but it is not very bad either. I like this type of film so I enjoyed myself. The actors were both very good.

Friday, November 8, 2019

Legend of The Blue Sea

Legend of The Blue Sea  well I was not expecting much from this drama and I was entertained by the beautiful leads (the female lead amazing actress) and their interactions. There was not much else to this drama but I can't say it is totally bad.

Thursday, November 7, 2019

On Second Thought

On Second Thought turned out to be just what I needed, a light read full of emotions. Performances were good so I recommend the audiobook.

Salem Falls

Salem Falls is an engaging story, expertly told. However as it happened with Black Powder War (different writer, different genre) I stopped in the middle and gave a rather long break, more than the novel deserved. I have no idea why this happens.

Parasite

Parasite  it was very very good. I loved it. Everything about it.

Mad Max 2

Mad Max 2 now that is more like it. The director obviously got better funding and he made good with it. It is a good indicator of what is to come much much later in the future.
