The Burning God

The Burning God  It was a good ending. And I admire the author for the scale of the story. This is one of the instances I could not connect with the novel but I appreciated the writing and the storytelling.

I read the first novel in paperback and did not really got into it but the following novel was  more interesting (to me) on audio so I got the final novel on audio too. I will recommend getting it on audio if you have the chance. And you definitely need to read the first two to make sense of this one.

Dynasty Warriors

Photo from wikipedia

Dynasty Warriors  is the first film in the book adaptation I guess. It does have a certain Hong Kong feel that appealed and I loved Louis Koo in it but other than those, it did not leave any impact.

Word of Honour

Photo from imdb

Word of Honour was entertaining kind of, despite being no where as good as The Untamed. The lead actors were not as good and the only story that got emotional response from me was the secondary one.

Tear meter:  Strong silent continuous tears for the secondary couple

The Yinyang Master

The Yinyang Master   well I liked this better than the previous Yinyang Master. The actors were better, the art direction was better and I liked the story more.

The Farewell

The Farewell   eh, I liked the sentimental parts (and of course shed tears, many tears) but it did not feel organic somehow. There was something off.

The Ying - Yang Master: Dream of Eternity

Photo from www.imdb.com

The Ying-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity was decent. Influenced by The Untamed (although not even coming close) My favorite looking actor was Duo Wang who played both a good guy and the antagonist. He was not as talented as the two main leads (and the female lead gave the best performance) but he has a better screen presence.

John Wick, John Wick: Chapter Two, John Wick: Chapter Three - Parabellum

Photo from www.imdb.com

John Wick   well I love this one (saw it three times already) and it does not get old.

John Wick: Chapter 2  it is good and I love the fights.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum    they sure upped the ante and I loved the Indonesian fighters. The dogs were really good and Marc Dacascos was also very good and it is nice to see him for us middle aged martial art film lovers.  I have trouble with Halle Berry though. I mean I like her, but I don't think she is a good actress.

The Untamed

The Untamed   yes, I have watched it again and liked it just as well, maybe even better. This is perfect. Every aspect of it is perfect. I really want to be like Lan Zhan but unfortunately I'm more of a Wei Ying. And I really could use a lifelong confidant as Lan Zhan. Kudos to these two actors.

I love this so much that I do not even want to watch making of videos etc. Thanks to everyone involved in it (sure they will not see it but I wanted to express it anyway)

21 Bridges

21 Bridges is not a very good film but Chadwick Boseman's performance is excellent and he has enough charisma to carry it through.

Strange Stories From A Chinese Studio

Strange Stories From A Chinese Studio It took me a while but I liked this one a lot. Recommended if you are into different cultures (and do not mind the outdated translator notes which sometimes can be offensive)

Empresses In The Palace was very entertaining despite being old (that's one of the reasons I like costume dramas)

Goodbye, My Princess

Goodbye, My Princess turned out to be a decent watch with some stupidity but overall engaging. I liked the female lead better.

The Untamed

The Untamed  well, God bless the youtube channel that recommended it (and also warned that the first few episodes are not an indicator of the whole) it is like tailor made for me. I have inhaled all of the 50 episodes. I was in tears so much during and I loved all of it to bits. From the cast, art direction, costumes, special effects everything worked amazingly well. Oh but the story!! The story is amazing. Our hero (the titular Untamed) is an orphan boy who is raised by a clan and became a brother to the actual children of the clan master and his wife. These three are inseparable. The girl is the elder sister, a mature and loving person who gets along exceptionally well with our hero Wei Wuxian. The boy is a hot head with a kind heart who often causes arguments but also knows how to apologise and do good. The first few episodes can be a bit confusing but as soon as the story has a sixteen year old flashback we are with these three who are going to another clan for a course to learn more about their martial art skills. Wei Wuxian is a happy go lucky boy who is an optimist who likes to drink and generally enjoys company. At this course place is our second male lead Lan Zhan who is a studious student who hardly speaks a word and is very strict and rule abiding. Well it was love at first sight for Lan Zhan but it took some time for him to really accept it. Same goes for Wei Wuxian, he immediately likes Lan Zhan but then again he is inclined to like people. These two go from adventure to mischief during the course and the story takes of from there. Allow me to say Wei Wuxian is a tragic hero worthy of Yang Guo. And male/male romance is definitely not my jam but I fell for it here. The actors have amazing chemistry and both play their roles perfectly. And I was rooting for them every step of the way.

All in all I give this one a 10 out of 10. Thank God I was able to watch this one.

Hide and Seek (China Version) well this turned out to be a pretty loyal remake of the original Korean film and I liked it.

Yanxi Palace: Princess Adventures

Yanxi Palace well I went to it without knowing anything about it and enjoyed the story, costumes etc. Also, it was unexpectedly short.

Us

Us is a good horror film and I enjoyed it despite seeing the twist right away. Lupita N'yongo is a great actress. It is not as good as Get Out but still it worked for me.

Handsome Siblings

Handsome Siblings I loved it. The story is a good one and finally there is enough technology to take it to the big screen. Everyone in the cast was very good, the action, the art direction, the production all were pleasing and I had a ball with it.

Gemini Man

Gemini Man turned out to be just meh, despite the good cast and story. Did Ang Lee lose his mojo?
