A Fantastic Woman (Una Mujer Fantástica)

A Fantastic Woman (Una Mujer Fantástica) is this year Oscar winner for a foreign film. I didn't know anything about it and liked it very much. I especially liked the fact that a real transgender actress played the transgender character on screen. The lead character has an older lover and they have a good relationship (she is about to move in) when he dies suddenly at night (and he tells him to stay there and goes to put something on and grab her keys and he falls from the stairs bruising himself). We slowly being to understand that this lady is transgender and is being prejudiced for it. The film has close up shots which I like and a nice cinematography (not the clean type I prefer but still good). I hope the lead actress will be able to get more roles since she was good.

Gloria I have been hearing about for some time however I was not really interested in. Then it was on Blutv and I thought why not? The film is not bad but I was not as impressed as I was with another similar film starring Isabelle Hubert. Not that the leading lady is not a good actress, I think her performance was perfect, the film though was not flowing properly. I don't know. The issues dealth with were good though and you see that a man behaves just as silly as when he is young, old, middle aged, it doesn't matter. His name was Rodolfo and I kept thinking of The Mysteries of Rodolpho or something. Anway I'm not sorry that I watched it but I was not as happy with it as the majority seem to be. 

The Red String (El Hilo Rojo)

The Red String (El Hilo Rojo) I have taken a break from the underwhelming Spanish rom coms and decided to give a romance film (sans com) a try. This one turned to be OK but not really that good. The accents are different and it was kind of hard to understand. The actors were very pretty and easy on the eyes. Colombia looked like a nice country to visit. 

Sendero

Sendero it took me ages to remember the name of this film. I remember it as Serado for some reason. Anyway I watched it since it was in Spanish and it was a sunny afternoon, ideal time for horror films and I fell asleep (yet again, it happened during Saw II) while watching Saw III. I decided to watch a horror film in Spanish so I can see how much I understand. Firstly Chilean Spanish is a little bit different but I understood more than I did a month a go. I wish Almodovar films are in Netflix or Blutv, now those would be great practises.

This is the second film from Chile that I watched (knowingly that is) and I like this one too. The budget obviously was very low and they have problems with the editing (now that I'm writing it maybe those were intentional, I hope so) but I liked it very much. It was gory and verbose. 

Sin Filtro (Without Filter)

Sin Filtro (Without Filter) I only watched because I, for some reason am unable to watch Pan's Labyrynth on Blutv. Every single time it stucks before starting and this doesn't happen to any other film just this one. Anyway I decided to check this one out since I liked the plot and I enjoyed this Chilean film with a heavy feminist message. Spoilers.

I especially loved the fact that she chose to remain single. How come no one understands that a person can be happy alone? I like it that this film does.

However the Spanish was a bit difficult. The Chileans have a different accent and it was really hard even to understand a few words. But it definitely is not a wasted efforts and I managed to figure out at least one whats app conversation :)
