Convenience Store Woman

Convenience Store Woman turned out to be entertaining but I could not connect with it. It is an observation and critisation of a society but I failed to see the quirkiness implied by the blurbs on the cover. I felt sad for the main character. Anyway I hesitate to recommend. It is short though, almost a novella. 

Atomic Blonde

Atomic Blonde was not as good in the second viewing. But I like watching a woman kicking ass (and making it believable).

Strangers On A Train

Strangers On A Train is a good novel. It is written with a strong prose that sucks you in with each page. The problem with me is that I don't enjoy the world I'm sucked into, same thing happened with The Talented Mr. Ripley. I didn't feel good while appreciating the obvious talent and strength of the writing.

The audi version is very good. 

More Twisted

More Twisted  my God this book has been on the 'to be continued' pile for years. Mainly because I was so disorganised and untidy before I retired. Now that my shelves are finally in order I have seen that only one story left unread from it. I have finished it quickly but I have no recollection of the other stories. So I will not add this to my Good Reads account, feels like cheating or something since I have a reading target etc. Anyway. I like Jeffrey Deaver so I must have enjoyed it. 

On Dakika Otuz Sekiz Saniye

On Dakika Otuz Sekiz Saniye'yi Man Booker'a aday olmadan önce aldım. Tabii Elif Şafak'ın kendi kitaplarını kendisinin çevirmediğini bilmiyordum ama almış bulundum ve okuduktan sonra Türkçe tercümeden memnun kaldım.

Romanlarının hemen hemen hepsini okumuş biri olarak Elif Şafak bana göre Baba ve Piç'in üzerine çıkamadı halen. Bu romanda da aynı şey oldu. Edebi olarak bana lezzet vermiyor ancak hikaye anlatış tarzını seviyorum (Ayşe Kulin benim için aynı şekilde, edebi olarak haz vermiyor ama öykü anlatımı olarak çok keyif alıyorum) ve su gibi okudum.

Anlatılan öyküde değinilen konulara gelince, bunlardan epey mevcut ve hemen hepsi kanayan yaralar ancak onlardan bahsedişi samimi gelmedi bana.

Ne bileyim mesela Hasan Ali Toptaş'ın Heba'sında da bir kaç konuya değiniliyordu ama ben Heba'yı bitirdiğimde enkaz gibiydim. Halen etkisi üzerimdedir. Elif Şafak'ta bu etkiyi sadece Baba ve Piç'te yaşadım ki Heba'nın yarısı kadar bile etki bırakmamıştı. Kendimi güzel ifade edemediğim için kıyaslama gibi oldu biraz ancak edebi haz bambaşka bir şey ve okuru daha derinden etkiliyor bana göre, onu örneklemek istedim.

A Place of Execution

A Place of Execution is the type of crime novel I like. A lot of mood, descriptions and a decent mystery. I guessed the end right away but it didn't take away any of the pleasure I had reading it.

The Last Wish

The Last Wish is the first Witcher book but I understand that they don't go chronologically. It took me sometime to read this one because it is actually short stories with the same main character. And I like him and I like the AU so I'm happy that I have already gotten all the novels in the series :)

Passion

Passion turned out to be just what I needed as a palate cleanser and it was surprisingly erotic with detailed and descriptive intimate scenes. 

The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night - Time

The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night - Time turned out to be very informative read. I purchased both the audio and print versions by mistake and preferred reading it despite the performance in the audio being very good. There are diagrams and charts in the book so it is better to read the print (or e-book) version. 

One Spring Night

One Spring Night viewing was an unexpected surprise. I thought I'd just check out a few episodes and drop it (I seem to do that a lot these days) especially since I didn't like the lead actor who starred at a similar series earlier in the year. Contrary to my expectations I loved it. The male lead is so good in this that not only he managed to erase all my bad memories but also I'll seek his work out in the future. The female lead is an actress I'm neutral too. Her project choices are not usually ones I go for but she totally won me over in this one too. I loved her character. All in all I really looked forward to every episode each week and it ended in a totally fitting way.

The Song of Achilles

The Song of Achilles is a good novel and there is much to take joy in it. I liked it but didn't love it. The reader was excellent though and I'm glad I chose the audio version of this. 

Magpie Murders

Magpie Murders turned out to be tough read for me because it is well written but I didn't really enjoy it. This is one of those novels that are just not for me. This is happening more often these days which means either I'm somehow unlucky or I'm at a slump. We'll see. 

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon still moves me after many years and many viewings. Ang Lee is indeed a master director. 

Fleabag I & II

Fleabag turned out to be not to my taste really but it got all these Emmy nominations and it was not very long so I watched it all. It is well made but just not to my taste. 

Kinga of The Wyld

Kings of The Wyld turned out to be not for me. It was kind of entertaining but not to my taste. I'm glad I listened to it though. I would have liked it less if I read it.

There is nothing wrong with the prose and storytelling per se, I'm a reader more suited to grimdark, and despite all sorts of different monsters (both human and other kind) it is a happy novel irregardless of the ending or the humour. 

I Feel Pretty

I Feel Pretty ended up being so forgettable that I forgot to add it to my diary, put it here etc. 

Diyet

Diyet yönetmenin üçleme diye adlandırılan Gelin ve Düğün filmlerine eşlik etmesine rağmen nedense bir türlü izleyemediğim bir filmdi. İzleme fırsatı bulunca filmi sevdim ancak bazı sahnelerde Hülya Koçyiğit gibi gerçekten yetenekli bir oyuncunun hayatının ileri safhalarında politik görüşünde nasıl bu kadar değişebildiğine hayret ettim. 

Line of Duty - Season 5

Line of Duty - Season 5 did not start very good for me. But then the magic came back in two following episodes and I was caught once again hook, line and sinker. I love these series and its taught atmosphere were anything can turn on its head and it still managed to surprise me. 

Live

Live was a drama series I have downloaded for the times when internet is not accessible (due to a failure or something, happens around here) but I never gave it a chance until it was the only thing left downloaded and I started watching it and I loved it. It is a pro cop show where the emergency response police is shown with various events in life. It reminded me of Grey's Anatomy and I liked the strong female character with lots of personal issues. It ended up being life's good surprises. 

The Wife

The Wife is my kind of film. Clean cinematography, close up shots of the actors' faces and very good performances. Highly recommended.

Neyse

Neyse bir twitter yazarının twitter formatında attığı hikayelerin çok beğenilmesinin ardından çıkardığı kitap. Benim okumam biraz uzun sürdü zira ilk kısımda anlatılan öyküler ilgimi çekmedi, sonrasındakiler zaten twitter okuduğum ve bayıldığım hikayelerdi. En sonda daha önce görmediğim bir tane vardı ve ondan epey keyif aldım. Şöyle böyle diyelim buna.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo sadly was not for me. I simply could not connect with it. The prose felt light in opposition with the story, which was dark, spanning decades. I wanted to like it if only for LGBTQ+ characters but alas no. 

Sixteen Candles

Sixteen Candles turned out to be very entertaining. I like watching 80's films just for the nostalgia factor but I'd have enjoyed this one even if it was at another decade in time. 

Out of Africa

Out of Africa is one of those films I was never interested in watching. Well I thought maybe I'm old enough to get more out of it and I didn't. Oh I leaked twice but still it didn't leave much of a mark. 

The Crown - Seasons I & II

The Crown was not a show I was interested in since I didn't care for any of its lead actors and the reign of Elizabeth II is not intersting to me except the Diana years. But I started it upon the recommendation of a friend and gotten very much into it. The first two seasons breezed by and I'm looking forward to Season III. 

Then She Was Gone

Then She Was Gone is not very good, but it is not very bad either. I like the audible version and it happily accompanied me during the dreaded sorting of things stage of my organisation project. 

The Meg

The Meg ok I understand that I'm at the age where we all say "they don't make films like they used to" but this one is geniunely so bad that it was almost an insult. Stock characters and nothing else going for it except some nifty set design and cgi.
