The Bloody Chamber

The Bloody Chamber is a satisfying read if you are interested in the retelling of the famous children's tales with a tiny bit of erotica thrown in. Both of the audio performances were very good.

Dear Wife

Dear Wife turned out to be an average mystery. Not bad but not exceptionally good either. The audio performances were all good.

Crash Landing On You

Crash Landing On You turned out to be an average drama with excellent production values. I actually liked the secondary couple (pictured) better than the first. The best point for me was that the female leads are strong, capable women with men confident enough to appreciate and trust them and having no qualms what so ever to receive their help. Other than that the male lead Hyun Bin is a good looking man with no acting talent (in fact the only drama I truly liked him in was The Snow Queen) this is especially evident because everyone else did the usual excellent job. The baddie is played by the actor I loved in The Vineyard Man so I just couldn't accept him as the baddie despite his exceptional performance. I have shed many tears during but this is probably due to a general mood and sometimes the side stories rather than the main story.

The Priory of The Orange Tree

The Priory of The Orange Tree ok I liked the LBGTQ representation and the strong female characters but ultimately this was neither entertaining nor exciting to me. The world building and the magic system are detailed but there was something off in the rhythm of the story telling. Multiple view story telling can be very good (GRR Martin, Joe Abercrombie) but in this case it didn't work at all. There was no sense of the urgency of the threat and the consequences of the actions never felt dangerous. I appreciate the effort but this was not for me. Adding to these is the reader performance of the audio book. It was just too dramatised for my taste.

Social Creature

Social Creature turned out to be a good read. It resembles The Talented Mr. Ripley but in a good way.

Shopaholic Louis

Shopaholic Louis (aka Shopping King Louis) turned out to be a nice surprise. I don't really care for any of the leads but I chose this mostly because of the plot. And I enjoyed it very much. The fact that the goodness is praised and the evil is shown as incompetent suited me fine. It is not as good as, say, Shining Inheritance but still very good.

Handsome Siblings

Handsome Siblings I loved it. The story is a good one and finally there is enough technology to take it to the big screen. Everyone in the cast was very good, the action, the art direction, the production all were pleasing and I had a ball with it.

Song of Kali

Song of Kali took a lot of time to finish. For some reason knowing the author's current political views marred my reading experience. I could not manage to overcome that. Otherwise it is not bad as horror novels go. Atmospheric, scary and sad.

Narcos: Mexico Season 2

Narcos: Mexico Season 2 was very much to my taste. First off I love Diego Luna ever since Y Tu Mama Tambien, and he doesn't disappoint as the lead villain. I like the story (very similar to Don Winslow's Border trilogy) and the production was very good as well as the cast. All looked very authentic and believable which is important since it is easy to forget that many of the evil in this show actually happened.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World turned out to be very emotional. It has a good message too and I liked it very much.

Jang Ok-Jung, Live in Love

Jang Ok-Jung, Live in Love turned out to be an alternate history drama, kind of. Jang Ok-Jung, a famous villain in Korean history is shown as a victim of her status and her love (for the King), and they have completely omitted the King's other (younger) son from the concubine Choi who is shown as the true villain of the drama, that younger son will eventually become a well known king who murdered his own son. Anyway, I liked it mainly because I love Yoo Ah In (who plays the king) but it is rather annoying to see all the women reduced to love lorn victims or power hungry shrews trying to get the King to notice them or something. In one of the last scenes we see how power hungry, vindictive cause yet another woman to die. All in all this was not worth it except for Yoo Ah In who is a good actor and a handsome man.

Truth Or Dare

Truth Or Dare is not very good. But I liked it for some reason and kept watching (not scary but entertaining)

Tully

Tully turned out to be decent film. I like Charlise Theron (convert) and she was excellent in this one. There was a twist I didn't see coming.

Chocolate

Chocolate turned out to be uneven but likable. I like the male lead but do not really care for the female lead. For some reason that lady does not appeal to me. The chemistry was excellent in one scene and tolerable in the rest. I have cried a lot during this one but mostly during the side stories.

Sins of The Night

Sins of The Night was kind of lackluster. The story was not very interesting either.

The Giver of Stars

The Giver of Stars is a good novel but it didn't have as much an effect on me as Me Before You had. I loved the audiobook performance though and I highly recommend getting this one on audio just for that.

Ocean Waves

Ocean Waves is the first film I chose to watch from Netflix Ghibli collection. And I'm not disappointed. Although this lacks that certain Miyazaki magic, it is a fine film with that certain Japanese thematic sensibility which appeals to me.

The Spy Who Dumped Me

The Spy Who Dumped Me turned out to be entertaining but not really that good. I like the cast and had a good time but will not call it a good film.

My Secret, Terrius

My Secret, Terrius  oh So Ji Sub, he is good but when he is in a good drama it is the best. Firstly this man's looks are amazing. Face and body both perfect - I know only one other man who appeals so much to my visual aesthetics all over and he is Takeshi Kaneshiro. Anyway this one is an action thriller drama and it works. The twist is very understandable even from the second episode but the cast, the set up and everything else all are very good. I also loved the fact that the mutual romance did not start in this drama until the very very end. Good job on that, even though I would have loved a So Ji Sub kiss scene (already swooning), it did not fit with the story since the main female lead lost her husband in the first episode. And there needed to be 16 episodes plus a one year time lapse even if the male lead is So Ji Sub. Good job to everyone.

Faithless

Faithless is yet another sweet ride by Karin Slaughter. I love this lady's novels and am not disappointed with anything I have read from her so far.

The Stranger

The Stranger turned out to be a decent effort but kind of a let down in the end. It was a good ride overall and Richard Armitage looks really fine (and it is strange since I don't usually find thin lips attractive)

Uncut Gems

Uncut Gems was worth waiting. I love Adam Sandler (even at its worst I do not dnf a film he stars in) and he proved once and for all that he is a very good actor. The film itself I liked a lot despite not having my preferred visual style and art direction (it was very cluttered) at least it had some close up shots on the actors' faces. The story and the direction were very good and I never yawned even once. February started good this year.
