King of Scars is a novel I was happy to find out released and eager to read (listen to). And it was good but not as good as her other 5 novels. I want to read the next book (this duology ended with a cliffhanger) but I think I'll prefer to read it rather than listen to it, not because of the reading performance but because I guess I have read the others (I actually purchased Crooked Kingdom right I after I have finished Six of Crows - I was at Tai Pei at the time) I want to keep on doing that.

The Five - Year Engagement
The Five - Year Engagement is a very boring film. It is one of those films in which every joke falls flat, there is not any chemistry between the leads and the story drags on and on.
It was not the film to try to get over Sons of Anarchy. I actually dnfed Safe House yesterday. Having severe withdrawal symptoms.

Friends With Benefits

Friends With Benefits is a film that usually cheers me up right away but this time I tried it to chase the tears caused by Sons of Anarchy away and it didn't help. I actually cried at the end of it (not my normal reaction to this delightfully bubbly film).

Sons of Anarchy is the reason that I have not watched anything else for some time since I have finished all 7 seasons and I finished it yesterday morning. This show ended up being my all time favorite from beginning to end. The only time I was not that invested was during their Irish adventure and even then it was entertaining. This is very loosely based on Hamlet.
It tells the story of the rise of a motorcycle club leader and his slowly finding out the tragic truths about himself and his family. This is one of the cases where an actor fits the role so good that not only it is hard to think anyone else in the role but it is hard to think the actor as anyone else. Charlie Hunnam is Jackson Teller (Jax) despite the fact that his accent can not keep up with his performance sometimes.
The side characters are mostly old people surrounding Jax and causing him problems (rarely helping him out) and young prospects of the club once again rarely helping him out. In fact it is easy to feel sorry for Jax but one must never forget that he is a very violent man with a temper that caused him much grief over the episodes. I liked this character very much and had a good time watching him but I wouldn't want him near me in real life.
His mother is the next tragic figure but she has less of a conscience than her unfortunate son. And she is very violent and not as bright as her son.
We start the story with Jax becoming a father himself in the first episode where his son is born with deficiencies caused both by genetics and heroin used by his junkie mother and Jax's ex wife Wendy.
SPOILERS!!!
And this is one of the good episodes. In the course of events Jax's son is kidnapped, he remarries (his wife, despite being smart and hard working enough to be a doctor, also is violent and remorseless) tries to take his family (now he has another son) away from the MC -gang- and live a better life and his wife wants the same thing - I thought of her as Ophelia and expected her to go mad but they had an even worse fate for her- but Jax's mother kills his wife (that scene was chilling and left me shouting at the screen) and furthermore this evil mother lies and frames other people (Chinese gang) for the murder and causes more and more deaths as Jax descends into a rage of vengeance. The last two episodes were amazingly melodramatic with just a small touch of paranormal that were all tailored for me. I have cried rivers during the last two episodes and Jax's troubles in this life finally ended with his suicide. I'm still getting teary eyed as I write this.
This show is now one of my favorites.

You Were Never Really Here
You Were Never Really Here is as good as people say it is. I liked the director's We Need to Talk About Kevin but this one is even better.
High Society
High Society is the story of a social climbing couple and it is acted by two of the finest of South Korea. I missed watching Korean films (ever since Netflix I just don't buy dvds anymore and I don't watch illegaly) and this is a good one with an ending that I liked very much.
Destination Wedding
Destination Wedding is a film that would appeal to people who are born in the 70s. Two of the hottest stars of that generation looking good without obvious plastic, play two unlikable characters who fall in love in the course of two days during the destination wedding of the title. It is not a masterpiece one shouldn't miss but if you are of my generation and liked cinema then you'll get some enjoyment out of looking at the actor and actress.
A Simple Favor
A Simple Favor turned out to be not that much of a bore but then again I like Blake Lively and think her not a bad actress. Anna Kendrick on the other hand is a different matter. For some reason I can't warm up to her. Anyway this story turned out to be a not so good one and the twist not very effective. I'm glad I didn't get the novel. I like the French songs and they got to my head.
The Fourth Monkey
The Fourth Monkey kept coming up in my recommendations and I decided to give it a go. It is a decent mystery but I have read too much of it and kind of jaded now so I figured out the killer right at the start and the whole thing was not as entertaining as I thought it would be. I'll recommend it to the lovers of the genre but it was not for me.
Godsgrave
Godgrave is the second novel of the Nevernight trilogy. And it is bloodier, has more adult content and all in all made me look forward for the third and the last novel. I like the audio version and normally I cringe when I listen to the intimate scenes (the reason I don't read/listen to romance on audible) but the exceptio is Nevernight and Godsgrave.

Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace is a film that only came to my radar when I heard that the director (Ms. Debra Granik) who directed a fave of mine Winter's Bone. And this film is just as good maybe even better. This lady knows how to tell a story on film and she is very good at getting great performances out of her actors. I first watched Jennifer Lawrence in Winter's Bone and so far that is still her best performance in my opinion. Mr. Ben Foster came to my attention when I watched Hell or High Water. This actor has an unassuming on screen presence but he is such a good actor that I'm ashamed of not recognising his talent sooner. He is so good in this film. He doesn't have much dialogue (the film shows not tells) and his peformance is so deep that I actually forgot he is an actor. What a gem. The rest of the cast are all good too and this film left me in silent tears that keep on flowing. Highly recommended.
