Blue Light Yokohama

Blue Light Yokohama  this one was interesting. It is indeed similar to Harry Hole novels. I liked it but not loved it.

Elite Short Stories - Nadia and Guzman

Elite Short Stories - Nadia and Guzman  These short three episodes (about 30 minutes in total) did not do much good since it was silly in a bad way and not hot at all. Guzman is hot though.

Sky Rojo

Sky Rojo well, turn your brain off, suspend your disbelief and dive in. I would have liked the story to be over but I see that this one is infected with the second season enfermedad.

Marina

Marina I thought I'd enjoy this and I did. But in a different way than I thought I would. This, for me, is one of those novels whose sentiments slowly creep on you and suddenly you are bursting with emotion you had no idea that was accumulating. The reader performance was very good, just the right note. I highly recommend if you like the genre, or a slice of life/coming of age story that is done right.

Elite

Photo from www.imdb.com

Elite   I was not expecting to like this but I did, very very much. I also had a crush on Guzman (hence the photo in which there are only four of the main cast. This one was written, acted and directed very well. And I can understand now why it was very popular.

White Lines

White Lines turned out to be very entertaining. Despite some glaring plot points, I enjoyed it very much. The actors were all good and the cinematography and art direction excellent, just to my taste.

Pain And Glory

Pain And Glory well I like Almodovar films (I think I have seen them all) and this is a rather good one made by a good film maker at his maturity. It felt and probably is a very personal film with a top notch Antonio Banderas performance. I loved it

Pet

Pet turned out to be not as bad as I thought it would be. It's not that good mind you, but still I'm glad I watched it.

Your Son (Tu Hijo)

Your Son (Tu Hijo) could have been great but the story is told in a way that didn't suit me at all.

Perdida

Perdida I really liked it. It was not that good a film to be honest but I liked the fact that the beautiful lead character is also a bad ass who makes the bad guys pay. I did not see the twist coming but it didn't surprise or shock me. All in all it was nice to look at and entertaining and had the kind of cinematography I liked,  but still it is not that good a film.

La Cueva (In Darkness We Fall)

La Cueva (In Darkness We Fall) is a film I saw an add on twitter. It looked nice so I decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a found footage film of 5 friends going on a trip to a beautiful island and deciding to go into a cave to explore a bit before swimming. A bad decision. Anyway I thought this was going to be a creature feature but it was better (for me). It depicts the sorry state of humanity when it is confronted with survival at stake. The friends turn on each other and it was very nicely depicted, great used of found footage trope and furthermore the visuals were actually very good. You can spot the final girl right away and this time she earned it people, she truly earned it.

The Warning (El Aviso)

The Warning (El Aviso) only interested me by its plot. I did not know it was a Spanish film (and unhappily surprised in the opening credits) but it turned out a film that appealed to me in more than one way. Firstly I liked the cinematography a lot. It is the clean type that I love with lots of close ups on the actors faces. Secondly the plot interested me. There were some holes but I liked it a lot. And it involves time travel of sorts (which is my least favorite trope). Anyway I recommend this for some fine acting, interesting plot and good Spanish Spanish (I'm learning Spanish Spanish so other Spanish accents are not immediately clear to me.

La Casa De Papel

La Casa De Papel is a much loved TV show I have only watched because of the Spanish. At least the production values are good and the actors unfamiliar so they seemed like real people. Not much of a fan (but the Spanish was good)

Verónica

Verónica turned out to be very good horror film. I was not really scared (I rarely am these days, jaded I suppose) but I was into it the whole time and I liked the way how teenage hormones and problems projected into the horror aspect. The actors all gave good performances and the period details were nicely done.

The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito)

The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito) It is one of my favorite Almodovar films. I liked it a lot the first time before knowing the twist and now it is just as good, knowing the twist. Senor Almodovar likes his suspense and noir but at the same time he likes colour and flash maybe just as much. I like the visual and thematic juxtaposition in his crime films. Antonio Banderas is amazing in and very age appropriate for the role.

As for the Spanish I'm not going to fool myself I understood very very little of it. Maybe I should try and watch stuff without subtitles (like we did in boarding school).

Mar Adentro

Mar Adentro is not really a film I wanted to watch. Despite liking Senor Amenebar's films, I can't like Javier Bardem. I fully acknowledge that he is a great actor and always gives a perfect performance but it is just one of those things, I prefer to watch other films if I don't really care for the director that much. In this one, he is amazing but I still don't like her. Not one of the films that make me change my mind about actors. It is a touching film that approaches its subject matter respectfully and showing both sides. It is not a film that makes you happy but one that will remain with you.
