Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame turned out to be a long fitting ending to a large large story. I enjoyed it. 

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel  well I gave in to the urge and decided to finish the Marvel saga. First I needed to watch Captain Marvel and it ended up being a better film than I expected. I can not get into Brie Larson for any particular reason but she was very good in this.

Climax

Climax is a film I was kind of interested in watching since I really liked the last film I have watched from this director (Love) This one, although categorized as horror, was not as horrific as Irreversable. Still it was pretty bad. I liked the acting and the dancing was alright too (although not an expert on that). 

Upgrade

Upgrade turned out to be not my type of film. I actually fell asleep and had to rewind. 

A Star Is Born (2018)

A Star Is Born is a story I like. I have watched the 70s version when I was too young to do so, and I love the Turkish version. And the odd thing is that this film was not very good (apart from the cinematography, I love the many many close ups on the faces of the actors) but I liked it and cried rivers (yes not the silent tears, I actually bowled and needed the tissue box). This is probably due to director Bradley Cooper honing his already there melodrama skill from Clint Eastwood. Mr. Eastwood whose political opinions never appeal to me, knows the type of melodrama I love and this film has that certain trait. As for the acting, Bradley Cooper is a competent actor I don't really care for. I love Lady Gaga as a musician and think her very nice. Her performance was a bit uneven in the film but I can see that she has talent and if she ever finds a director to channel it properly then she'll be a good actress too. The songs were nice (I don't like Shallow but the rest of the songs were very good) and contributed to the tears.

Suspiria (2018 Remake)

Suspiria remake actually surprised me in how much I liked it. Not only the working of the themes and acting but also the visuals. I think I'm going to give up and watch Call Me By Your Name, (I just don't like Armie Hammer).

Burning

Burning turned out to be just my type of film. I have read the Murakami story but it didn't leave much impression apparently since I hardly remember it, so I watched the film knowing very little about the story. And I loved it. This director is one of my faves and he got better as he aged. I love Yoo Ah In and the other two leads were very good too. The performances were amazing but the real power is the visual storytelling. I just loved every single scene and the ending was very well executed. Highly recommended.

Widows

Widows turned out to be better than I have expected. It is still not a very good film but I liked it. But then again I like this director and his artistic sensibilities. Also as a woman I felt for these women and their various trials. I was totally into it in the end (and I loved the ending).

On a very surprising note for me, Daniel Kaluuya gave a great performance. I saw him only as good guy (in Get Out and Black Panther -well his intentions at least were good there-) in this one he is one evil man and he acts so good. Kudos Mr. Kaluuya.  

Dogtooth (Kynodontas)

Dogtooth is worth of the praises it has gotten and been getting. Mr. Lanthimos is an interesting film maker to me since I don't particularly like his films (so far I have seen three) but I like watching them. His sense of humour works for me and this film is abundant with it. It is one of the most horrific and funny horror films I have seen in a while. And one of the many bounties of the film is that it is not gory at all. But it makes your skin crawl just the same. A powerful film maker and a powerful little film. 

Phantom Thread

Phantom Thread turned out to be even better than I imagined it to be. I want to use the term masterpiece actually and only hesitate because I didn't felt so much for the story as much as I did for the art. Firstly this film has no flaws. Literally everything in it is perfect. The acting is top notch with Daniel Day-Lewis being so good that you forget to admire his performance. The two leading ladies both are a good match for him and the costumes, the music, the cinematography, the script, the sets, the props, oh my God I was in awe. Highly recommended for the lovers of cinema. 

Hereditary

Hereditary  well I have discovered the itunes films section and decided to use it this weekend (since I was consumed by Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim during the week) well the process was a success but I didn't really liked this film. Well the things I liked were the clean, uncluttered cinematography with a lot of close up shots enriched by the set design that allows intentional perspective misconseptions, then I liked the fact that the lead actress looks her age without cosmetic support, she has wrinkles and is not afraid to show them. There were some unsettling moments in the beginning but they quickly lost the scare factor as used more often than it is good for. The acting is all good.

The real problem for me was the script, unnecessarily convoluted at first and then unnecessarily explanatory in the end. It just was not scary.
