Broadchurch Season 1

Broadchurch is the first TV show I have finished as I registered at Netflix. There were a lot of good things said about this one and it has been recommended me by various sites on net (based on to my purchases) and indeed they were right to recommend it to me. It was not truly great (not like Forbrydelssen) but it had a lot good points.

1- David Tennat. I have never liked this guy but this one caused me to like yet another actor I didn't until then.

2- Not being able to see the twist. This show made me remember the good old days when I could never see any twist and guess the murderer. I truly had no idea and was very surprised when the killer was revealed.

3- Cinematography. It had that clean cinematography with lots of close up shots to the actors' faces.

The negatives were very few in number but definitely not minor. I didn't like the script and the way the story unfolded. There were a lot of red herrings but they were not organic to the story if you know what I mean.

Saving Grace

Saving Grace turned out to be just OK. Not as good as her other novels.

A Drink Before The War

A Drink Before The War is the first Kenzie novel. And so far it is the worst in the series. Having said that, Mr. Lehane is a wonderful story teller and I loved the book. Sort of inhaled it actually but not as intensely as Gone Baby Gone.

Seven Japanese Tales

Seven Japanese Tales I have read these short stories spread through a long time. And I love Junichiro Tanizaki (although his characters are mostly pervs) and loved the stories too.

The Raven Boys

The Raven Boys was just not for me.

Utanç

Utanç beni normalden daha fazla etkiledi. 1970'li yılların başlarında Türkiye nasılmış. Neyse üzüldüm üzüldüm sonra twitter'a bakarken diğer insanlarında bu filmi izlediğini gördüm. Bazıları fena etkilenmişti (benim gibi). Atıf Yılmaz çok iyi bir yönetmen.

Mississippi Burning I liked it a lot. The story was told in interesting fragments not really delving into the characters of the participants but giving clues about what kind of people they are. And my new found love and appreciation for Gene Hackman increased after this performance. He was the best in the film along with Frances McDormand.

The Lake House

The Lake House is one of those lovely novels that folds open layers upon layers as you read and I think I enjoyed it more as an audio book. I loved how it ended too.

Gentle Rouge

Gentle Rouge started really well and entertaining but GOD it was LONG. It dragged on and on and on.

Theft of Swords

Theft of Swords turned out to be a mixed bag. Adult themes but sometimes it felt very childish and predictable. But I'm a sucker for good guys doing good deeds and overcoming ultimate evil and the reader was very good so I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Recommended if you are into the genre.

Bridget Jones' Baby

Bridget Jones' Baby was just what I needed after trying to go around in a brace on my leg (ankle incident at Fenway Park) and feeling generally down. It was entertaining without being totally good.

Don't Breathe

Don't Breathe turned out to be a good horror film enhanced by my viewing experience at Loews Theater in Boston. The viewers were all into it and commenting loudly in a good way, even I started doing that as the film progressed and all in all I ended up being very happy with the whole thing.

Daddy's Home

Daddy's Home is one of those comedies typical to USA. It was entertaining without being any good. I do like Mark Wahlberg however despite his large nostrils. Yeah.

Ricky And The Flash

Ricky And The Flash is a film I have only watched because of Merly Streep (yeah I love her). During credits I saw that it was directed by Jonathan Demme and I like him. The script was written by Diablo Cody and I like her too. So it was no surprise in the end that I loved it. Cried rivers and thought the story was told beautifully and simply, with a lot of depth.

Mistress America

Mistress America turned out to be a lot nicer than I thought it would be. Probably because no one really liked it I thought it would be a turn off but I was pleasantly surprised and even was awake the whole time (despite the long light and this being the last film I have seen on that flight)

The Martian (The Film)

The Martian the book was better.

Suffragette

Suffragette turned out to be more of a story of a single woman's slice of life with the background of the suffragette movement. As a woman it is not possible to be aloof and despite not liking the film much, I felt involved in the story and didn't fall asleep.

Me Before You (The Film)

Me Before You the book was better.

X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalypse is yet another superhero film not as good as the film it followed up.

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War is ok I suppose but it was not fantastic or anything.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens turned out to be a lot better than I expected. The hype is deserved for this one. It carried the Star Wars spirit although I still like the orginal ones best.

The Martian

The Martian I have found this novel at my Aunt's. Apparently my cousin read it and left it there and I'm not one to miss a free book. It is not something I'm interested in but I liked it. It is written in a humourous style imagining the reader to be not that much into science but smart enough to figure out the gist of things. And I was totally rooting for the main character as I read. Highly recommended.

The Heist

The Heist was interesting and smart but not that special. The thing is that I didn't like Gene Hackman for many many years (without a good reason) but now I love him.

The Color Purple

The Color Purple turned out to be a very sad film that made me shed a lot of tears. Mr. Spielberg is a very good director and an excellent storyteller.

The Winter People

The Winter People turned out to be a great buy. I love mystery horror and this one even had a period section. I loved both readers and all in all this one completely satisfied me. Highly recommended.

Malice

Malice it ended up being a wonderful mystery novel. Mr. Higashino has played me like a violin and I loved every page of it.
